Smart Catalog

FreeSince 2.1.1

Shoppers rarely use your product names. Smart Catalog asks AI once per product for the other words shoppers type for it, stores those words on your site, and searches them locally. No shopper search waits for or pays for an AI call.

Smart Catalog is part of the free plugin. It needs a saved OpenAI or Zywrap key.

For each product, AI writes up to three groups of words:

Group Shown in the product box as Example for running shoes Most kept
Names Shoppers also call this sneakers, trainers, joggers, kicks 12
Translations Other languages zapatillas (with Spanish ticked) 12
Uses Good for running, gym, marathon 8

Names and translations say what the product is and count like a tag in ranking. Uses say what it is for: they help a product be found, but never make it count as a different kind of product.

Geeky Bot checks every word before keeping it. Colours, sizes, materials, price words (budget, cheap, premium), brand names and the product’s own title are never added. Colours and sizes always come from your product attributes, so a guessed “black” can’t put a product into the wrong search.

  1. Save an OpenAI or Zywrap key under Geeky Bot → AI & Privacy. Chat answers can stay in local mode.
  2. Open Geeky Bot → Product Search and go to Search level.
  3. Select Smart Catalog.
  4. Optional: tick languages under Also add words in these languages.
  5. Select Save search level.

Geeky Bot rebuilds the product index and starts writing words in the background, 20 products per AI call, pending changes first, then newest products.

Words are written for a product:

  • when you switch Smart Catalog on (every published, visible product)
  • when a product is added
  • when its name, categories, tags or attributes change
  • when you change the extra languages
  • when you select Rewrite all, Retry failed, or tick Write new words when I save on a product

Price, stock and description changes don’t trigger new words.

Your store language (from the WordPress site language) is always included. Under Also add words in these languages you can add any of English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The words go in the Other languages group, so a shopper who types in that language finds your products.

Changing the languages queues every product again.

When Smart Catalog uses OpenAI, the OpenAI model for search words field appears under Search level. Leave it blank to use your chat model. The plugin’s own note says gpt-4o-mini gave the best search words in testing, and that smaller models such as gpt-4.1-nano cost about the same overall because they write more, weaker words.

There is no model field for Zywrap.

The Smart Catalog progress card on Geeky Bot → Product Search shows:

Item What it means
Status Off, Needs an AI connection, Writing words, Up to date, Done, some products failed, Paused: AI limit or Paused after an error
Products with search words Products done, out of all searchable products
Waiting Products queued for words
Failed Products the AI could not write words for
Turned off per product Products where you switched AI words off
AI used so far Calls and tokens sent and received
AI calls to finish About how many calls the waiting products need, 20 products each
Examples The words written for the three most recently done products

Buttons on the card:

  • Write the next 20 now runs one batch straight away.
  • Retry failed queues failed products again.
  • Rewrite all queues every product again, and each one costs AI calls again.

If an AI call fails, the card shows the error and Geeky Bot tries again in 15 minutes. If your daily or monthly AI limit is close, Smart Catalog pauses so part of the limit stays free for shopper chat, and continues by itself.

Each product edit screen has a Geeky Bot search words box.

  1. Open the product in Products.
  2. In Geeky Bot search words, untick any word you don’t want search to use.
  3. Optional: add words under Your own words, separated by commas. Colours and sizes are ignored.
  4. Optional: tick Write new words when I save to ask AI again, or Do not use AI words for this product to switch AI words off for it.
  5. Select Update.

Your own words stay when AI rewrites the product. Ticking Write new words when I save also clears the list of words you unticked. Words in this box are only used while a Smart Catalog level is chosen.

For each product, Geeky Bot sends the product title, categories, tags, attributes (without colours and sizes) and a summary of up to 240 characters from the short description, or the full description if there is no short description. No shopper data is sent. The request goes to OpenAI or Zywrap, whichever your AI connection is.
