Search Rescue and learning

Requires Commerce ProSince 2.1.1

Some shoppers don’t name a product at all: “something to keep warm”, “a gift for a runner”. Search Rescue asks AI which of your product types fit such a request, then searches your catalog for them. Learning from missed searches reads the searches that still found nothing and suggests synonyms, so the next shopper is answered without AI.

Both are built into the free plugin and are switched on only while Commerce Pro is active. Both need a saved OpenAI or Zywrap key.

  1. Make sure Commerce Pro is installed and active. See Commerce Pro overview.
  2. Save an OpenAI or Zywrap key under Geeky Bot → AI & Privacy.
  3. Open Geeky Bot → Product Search and go to Search level.
  4. Select Smart Catalog + Rescue.
  5. Select Save search level.

Rescue includes everything Smart Catalog does.

Rescue runs only after every free step has failed: normal search, close matches, typo repair. It also runs when the only results share no whole word with the request, for example “car tyres” reaching a scarf.

  1. Geeky Bot sends the shopper’s search wording and a list of your store’s words (category names and the product types learned from them, up to 300) to your AI connection.
  2. AI answers with up to four product types from that list, or with nothing if your store doesn’t sell anything that fits.
  3. Geeky Bot checks each answer against words your catalog really uses, drops broad words such as “accessories” or “gifts”, and searches for what is left.
  4. The shopper’s price, stock and sale filters are kept, so “something warm under 30” stays under 30.

The reply tells the shopper what was searched, for example: I didn’t find an exact match for “something to keep warm”, so I looked for scarf, beanie.

Rescue can never send a shopper to something you don’t sell.

Limit Value
Time a shopper waits for the AI 6 seconds at most, then the normal “nothing found” reply
How long an answer is remembered 30 days, for every shopper, including “nothing fits”
New AI rescues per visitor 20 per hour (administrators, shop managers and other users who can edit products are not limited)
Site-wide AI calls Counts towards the daily and monthly limits under Geeky Bot → AI & Privacy

A remembered answer costs nothing. A timeout or outage is not remembered, so the phrase is tried again next time.

With Smart Catalog + Rescue chosen, the Smart Catalog progress card also shows:

  • Searches rescued: AI found product types and the search returned products.
  • Nothing in the store fitted: AI decided you don’t sell anything that fits.
  • Answered from memory (free): a remembered answer was reused.
  • Rescue AI used: calls and tokens spent on Rescue.

Learning runs once a day while Commerce Pro is active, an AI connection is saved, and Smart Catalog or Smart Catalog + Rescue is chosen. A saved key alone never starts it.

Each run:

  1. Takes phrases Rescue already mapped. These cost no extra AI call.
  2. Takes product searches from the last 30 days that found nothing, most asked first, and skips any that now find products.
  3. Sends up to 40 of those messages, with your store words, to the AI in one call. Each message is only ever sent once.
  4. Stores the result as a suggestion: the shopper’s product words and the store words they mean.

Nothing is applied until you approve it.

  1. Open Geeky Bot → Product Search and go to Missed searches.
  2. In Suggested synonyms, read each row: Shoppers typed, Search your products for, and Times.
  3. Select Add synonym to accept it, or Dismiss to drop it.
  4. Optional: select Check missed searches now to run the check straight away.

An accepted suggestion is added as a line to your Custom synonyms, so the next shopper who types it is answered locally, at any search level, with no AI call. If Custom synonyms is full (6,000 characters), Geeky Bot asks you to remove some first. See Catalog quality and synonyms.

Wanted, but not in your store lists requests where nothing you sell fits, with how often each was searched. They are not synonyms, but they may be worth stocking.

  • Rescue: the wording of the search that found nothing and the list of store words. Answers are stored for 30 days and reused, so the same search is not sent again during that time.
  • Learning: once a day, the text of recent shopper messages that found no products, with the same list of store words.

Both go to OpenAI or Zywrap, whichever your AI connection is. Mention this in your privacy policy. See Privacy and data.
