Alternatives and add-ons
Commerce Pro can show products that go with, or could replace, a product the shopper is looking at in the chat. It uses the product links you already keep in WooCommerce, so you control what is suggested.
How it differs from the free recommendations
Section titled “How it differs from the free recommendations”Geeky Bot has two kinds of recommendation:
| Need-based (free) | Product-based (Commerce Pro) | |
|---|---|---|
| Starts from | What the shopper asked for, such as “a quiet blender under $100” | One product the shopper picked |
| Chooses from | The products that matched the search | That product’s upsells, cross-sells and related products in WooCommerce |
| Explains | Why the suggested product fits the request, with clearly labelled close matches | “Because you are viewing [product], these related products may also fit.” |
The free recommendations are covered in How search works. This page is about the Commerce Pro kind, shown in the settings as Smart recommendations.
Switch Smart recommendations on
Section titled “Switch Smart recommendations on”- Open Geeky Bot → Commerce Pro.
- Select the Sales assistance tab.
- Turn on Smart recommendations.
- Select Save settings.
It’s on when you first install Commerce Pro.
How shoppers see suggestions
Section titled “How shoppers see suggestions”Each product card in the chat has a More actions menu (•••) with a Recommend button. When a shopper selects it, the chat shows up to four product cards under the message “Because you are viewing [product], these related products may also fit.” These cards work like any other, so shoppers can add them to the cart or compare them.
If nothing is linked or related, the chat says “I couldn’t find related products for this item yet.”
Where the suggestions come from
Section titled “Where the suggestions come from”For the product the shopper picked, Commerce Pro takes products in this order and keeps the first four:
- The product’s Upsells.
- The product’s Cross-sells.
- WooCommerce’s related products, which WooCommerce picks from the same categories and tags.
The product itself is never suggested, and only published products that are visible in your catalog are shown.
Choose what is suggested
Section titled “Choose what is suggested”Because upsells and cross-sells come first, they are the way to steer suggestions.
- In WordPress, open Products and edit the product.
- In Product data, select Linked Products.
- Add products to Upsells for better or pricier alternatives.
- Add products to Cross-sells for add-ons that go with it.
- Select Update.
Products with no upsells or cross-sells fall back to WooCommerce’s related products. Clear categories and tags make those more useful. See Catalog quality and synonyms.
